- January 2008: Went to my primary care Dr. for hirsutism. She said that she thought I might have PCOS and she referred me to an endocrinologist.
- March 2008: After lots and lots of blood work and urine samples the endocrinologist says that he thinks I have an enzyme blockage that is causing the hair growth and at that time he didn't think I had PCOS and that I would have no trouble getting pregnant in the future. But if I did have trouble to come back and he would re evaluate me.
- June 2008: Roger and I are married!
- May 2009: Decided to throw out birth control pills! I just knew I would get prego that very first month just like every other woman in my family!
- June 8th, 2009: My period started, I couldn't believe I wasn't prego yet!
- June 15th- August 23rd, 2009: No period, but not pregnant either, what in the world is going on?
- August 2009- January 2010: I had periods but they were very irregular. Also, hit the 6 month mark TTC and realized I'm the only woman in my family that it has taken this long to conceive, I started to get worried.
- January 2010: Made an appt with my OB Dr. She said she was sure that I have PCOS so she ordered an HSG test and said that if that came back fine then we would move on and do 6 months of clomid and metformin, and if after 6 months I wasn't pregnant then she would refer me to an RE.
- March 2010: Had the HSG done and everything looked great! Thank God! And somehow I guess this test cleaned me out because I started having 30-31 day cycles every month from that month on.
- June 2010: We hit the 1 year mark of TTC and I just didn't feel comfortable doing clomid and metformin with my OB Dr. because they don't monitor anything, so my husband and I decided since my periods had become more regular that I would try tempting.
- June 2010- September 2010: Tried tempting and it just made me so frustrated that I finally just gave up and quit doing it.
- October 2010: Made another appt with my OB Dr. I was so upset about not getting pregnant that I started crying and my OB was so sweet, she gave me a hug and I literally cried on her shoulder for awhile. She then agreed to skip the 6 months of clomid and metformin and decided to refer me to an RE.
- November 8th, 2010: 1st appt with RE, love her, she is so nice. She thought I might have Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, so she referred me back to the original endocrinologist I saw in 2008 for him to diagnose me.
- December 2010: Lots and lots of blood work and one genetic test done to check for Congenital Adrenal Hyperlasia, but the results won't be in for a month!
- January 2011: The endocrinologist called and said that the genetic test came back negative for Congenital Adrenal Hyperlasia.
- February 2011: Follow up appt with RE. She said it took her and the other endocrinologist several weeks to finally come up with a decision on what in the world is going on with my body, and the only answer she had was that they really weren't sure what was going on and they didn't really understand why certain hormones are way elevated. But they both agreed to treat me as if I have PCOS and they both believed that I would get pregnant. So we decided to move forward with treatment and do a timed intercourse cycle with clomid, bravelle, and a trigger shot. She also had me tested for diabetes and insulin resistance.
- March 2011: 1 hour glucose test showed that I did not have diabetes but it did show that I am insulin resistant, so I started metformin. I started at 500mg a day and worked my way up to 1500mg a day in 3 weeks. That stuff is no fun to take but it really helped me.
- April 2011: Decided to go in early for a monitoring appt to make sure that my period was going to start on time because I didn't want to wait any longer to do the timed intercourse cycle.
- April 1, 2011: My RE's nurse called to tell me that my period was going to be late because I was pregnant but my numbers were very low and they were sure that I was gonna have a chemical pregnancy, but it could just be that I'm really early, but not to get my hopes up. So they make me wait all weekend and go in on Monday for a repeat of all blood work. Sadly on Monday I went in and my numbers did not double and it took me over a week to start bleeding and finally everything went back to zero. This really broke my heart.
- Mid- April 2011: My RE convinced me to just go ahead with my timed intercourse cycle even though now looking back I was really not emotionally prepared for it.
- May 5th, 2011: Found out that our timed intercourse cycle failed.
- May 8th, 2011: While on vacation in Ringgold, Ga for an old time tent meeting and on Mother's day of all days my period started, and wow was it heavy, I was miserable!
- May 9th- 13th, 2011: We were at the most amazing meeting I have ever been to in my life, that week God helped me so much and I was finally able to let go of all the bitterness and anger I was feeling because of not getting pregnant. I finally told God I was done trying to control the situation because it was consuming me and that I would leave it up to Him whether or not we have children. God gave me back my joy after that meeting!
- May into June 2011: I decided to stay on metformin because of the insulin resistance and to help me lose weight. My husband and I decided to stop all other fertility treatments.
- July 9th, 2011: BFP! I could not believe it, I was so shocked because the only thing I noticed different about myself was that my period was a day late. Praise God for hearing and answering prayers! My first beta was 1800, second was almost 5,000 and the third they did at like 6 or 7 weeks which was about 50,000. I did have some trouble with my progesterone levels, they were normal but on the low side of normal, so I tried suppositories but they didn't work so I moved on to doing progesterone shots until I was 12 weeks pregnant, I also took metformin until I was 14 weeks pregnant.
