Worst Haircut EVER!

So I'm almost 3 months post-partum and my hair is falling out like crazy. The same exact thing happened after I had Jackie, so I knew what to expect this time. I stayed on my gummy prenatals, I started taking biotin, and I use all sulfate free products in my hair. So far none of these precautions I took this time have made any difference.I feel like I'm going bald. Especially around my hairline. So I decided the only way to hide all this hair loss until my hormones stop freaking out is to get a haircut with bangs.

So I made a hair appointment last week at the usual salon I go to. Sadly, my usual hair stylist recently moved to Florida, so I was especially nervous because I didn't know the lady that was going to be cutting my hair. As soon as I was introduced to my new stylist I quickly showed her some photos that I had brought with me of how I wanted my hair to look. I could tell almost right off the back that this girl was a brand new, right out of beauty school, hair stylist. She asked me a few questions about the style I wanted and then she disappeared for 15 minutes! She finally came back to shampoo my hair, and she was so rough with my scalp I had to actually ask her to take it easy- I mean I'm losing enough hair as it is! Then came time to start cutting. She grabbed my hair and went to start cutting, and she couldn't get the scissors to cut! She tried 3 or 4 times with 2 different pairs of scissors with no luck. Now, usually I am a quiet, shy person, but I had to speak up! There was no way this girl was cutting my hair. So I apologized and I asked to speak with a manager. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable with her cutting my hair, and that I wanted someone else to do it. She literally just froze there, staring at me through the mirror. After about a minute of awkwardly staring at me, she threw down the scissors and stormed away, I could hear her cussing and yelling about me in the back of the salon. I was really kind of shocked by her behavior. Then, an older woman came from the back of the salon and she apologized for the girls behavior, she explained that the manager wasn't there at that time, but she was a "master" stylist and that she was gonna cut my hair. She looked at the pictures I brought in and was like, ok, no problem! She turned me away from the mirror and went to town.

It came time for the big reveal, I was so excited to see what she had done! She spun me around to see myself in the mirror, and I just about had a panic attack! She acted so surprised that I didn't like it! What she did looked nothing like the picture I brought in. I asked for a short, sleek hair cut with a heavy bang. She gave me a short, spiked, pixie cut!! I had like a Mohawk! I refused to pay and I walked out! I will NEVER go back there again.

I cried all the way home, and I was in hiding all last week. Then last Saturday I had a heart-to-heart with myself, and it finally hit me that this is just hair! It will grow back! It may take awhile (lol), but it will get long again. I decided as long as I have this short haircut I might as well work it. I went out and got some head scarves and headbands, and I started playing with styling. I also decided I could start trying out bolder make up looks to make sure I look feminine.

On Sunday, our church was having a huge 40th anniversary service with dinner on the grounds, and lots of activities for the day. It was the first time my friends and family were gonna see my new look; I was soooo nervous! Everyone actually loved it! I was surprised at how many compliments I got. My mom told me it makes me look more "Latina," like my dad's side of the family ( I have family in Nicaragua and Costa rica.) My mom cracks me up!

So...here I am,(with my little love), trying my best to rock my new short mommy do....

Sorry the picture is kinda bright, it was very sunny that day!

  2. Wow! Well first I'll say you are so pretty and the haircut does look very nice, but I feel terrible that it's not what YOU wanted! What a nightmare! I had a similar experience with a dye job. I ended up with crayola red hair, SO not my style! I did get it toned down and then just waited for it to grow out, but it wasn't fun!

I totally had the hair loss issue after having my kids too, especially my youngest. I was wearing my hair back too much and was really going thin in front. A shorter do helped me stop putting it up and the hair loss calmed down shortly thereafter (I got it cut around 4-5 months PP).

Thanks for the comment on my blog! And your son is just adorable!!

    1. Aw thank you! Yea I have had some interesting dye jobs over the years as well. I have had pretty bad hair loss after both my pregnancies. After my daughter I got pregnant again pretty quickly (Jackie was 8 months old when I found out), so my hair recovered during pregnancy. I am hoping my hair stops shedding soon because it's kinda causing me to have a panic attack everyday during my shower because that's when I see the most hair fall. It's crazy!

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I look forward to following yours and getting to know you!

  4. Oooh...I've been there, and it's just miserable to get a bad hair cut. I have curly hair, and I had (also a young, out of school girl) who didn't cut it at all really, gave me bangs (I did NOT ask for bangs, curly hair = curly bangs...no thanks) and then blow dried it so it was a frizzy mess after I specifically asked her NOT to blow dry it (she insisted she knew how to blow dry it). When I complained, the manager made her fix it but she just made it worse. I got fed up and left with a crappy hair cut. I never went back again.

Ultimately, it is JUST hair...and it will grow back (we always need someone to remind us of this in the wake of a bad hair cut!).

For what it's worth - I think your pic is cute! I think the hair style looks great. Just remember, we're always our worst critics! Your little guy is adorable too!

    1. Thank you! I have curly hair too, so now until my hair grows out I am stuck with straightening it everyday- so annoying!

    2. Oh no! I hate that...I gave up straightening years ago because even when I did, since it's super humid here, I'd look like a poodle within hours LOL. I'm praying it grows out fast or you grow to really like it! :-)

  5. I can't tell you how comforting it is to know I'm not alone in the post baby hairloss. IT SUCKS! I've experienced it with all 3 but this one seemed to be much worse than before. I recently did the chop too and while everyone else tells me it looks nice I still have yet to come to terms with liking it. I just keep reminding myself it's hair and it will grow (fingers crossed) and that at least I still have some left to style, lol!

Yours looks super cute and I love the scarf, I haven't gotten brave enough to go for the accessories, maybe I should!

  6. Thank you! I actually have not gone out of the house without some kind of scarf or headwrap since I got it cut. I feel like I look like a man without something on my head, lol. You should give the accessories a try! I highly recommend forever21.com! That's where I bought all my headwraps, they are adorable and comfortable, and I always get tons of compliments on them.
